Doctor Meeting Patient

What to expect when starting therapy.

Beginning therapy can feel uncertain. Here’s what the process typically looks like—step by step.

Here are the Steps

THE FIRST STEP: CONSULTATION

The consultation is a brief conversation to understand your needs, answer questions, and determine whether therapy at Authentic Heart is a good fit.

What we discuss:

  • What brings you to therapy

  • Goals and concerns

  • Therapy options and next steps

This is not a commitment to ongoing services.

INTAKE & ASSESSMENT

If we move forward, you’ll complete intake forms and begin a collaborative assessment process. This helps us understand your history, strengths, and goals.

What this includes:

  • Background and current concerns

  • Consent and policies

  • Initial therapeutic focus

ONGOING THERAPY SESSIONS

Sessions are guided by your goals and therapy pathway. Therapy may involve conversation, reflection, skill-building, and trauma-informed interventions.

Important note:
Therapy is paced collaboratively—there is no rush.

REVIEW & ADJUSTMENT

Your needs may change over time. We regularly review progress and adjust focus to ensure therapy remains supportive and aligned.

Frequent Questions

How long does therapy last?

Therapy length varies based on individual needs, goals, and circumstances. Some clients seek short-term support, while others engage in therapy over a longer period. This is discussed collaboratively and revisited as therapy progresses.
